  • Does your charity use an online giving platform?

    01 April 2016

As any charity professional will know, there are a range of online fundraising platforms available, and each are keen to promote their respective benefits. This might be their popularity found through running high profile campaigns, superior pricing or the amount of funds they pass directly onto the charity.

Here at Third Sector Insight in association with MyDonate from BT, we want to know how much charity professionals and fundraisers know about the platforms that are available and their respective merits.

We appreciate you're busy at the best of times, but the survey will take no longer than 3 minutes (promise, we timed it!).

As a thank you, we will:

    - Provide you with an overview of the results

    - Enter you into a prize draw for a copy of the Third Sector Donating Trends Report (worth £129+VAT)

  • Cyber and data security - the next big threat - how prepared is your charity?

    24 March 2016

Awareness of cyber risk is increasing, and many charities are doing a good job of tackling it.
But there is more work to be done. Recently, the ICO reported on advisory visits it had made to a number of charities and revealed several areas that required improvement.

According to the ICO, roughly half of the charities visited had failed to disable USB ports and DVD/CD drives on computers, leaving them open to the removal of data or uploading of malicious code.
A significant proportion of these organisations didn’t have minimum requirements for password complexity, nor did they enforce basic security principles, such as regular password changes. Over a third of the charities had no education programme in place for training their staff that handles personal data.

While it is hard for third sector organisations to devote time and money to data and IT security, they must prioritise it. Charities are the same as any other company when it comes to information security and the possibility of a cyber attack.
Through this survey, Third Sector Insight, together with Markel, wants to find out how your charity is protecting itself against or preparing for a cyber breach of security.

The survey will take no more than a few minutes of your time – and as a thank you, we will enter you into a prize draw for a 1st prize of a set of Virtual Reality goggles and a 2nd prize of £25 worth of John Lewis vouchers.

  • Protecting Your Charity’s Data

    18 February 2016

Your charity holds a wealth of personal data about individuals; from staff and volunteers to supporters and end clients. This information is subject to the Data Protection Act.

The Information Commissioner’s Office has already started an investigation into how the voluntary sector manages data and can impose fines of up to £500,000 for serious breaches of the Act.

In addition, the increasing risk of cyber attack and serious organised crime is as relevant and concerning to charities as it is to any business – the voluntary sector may be seen as a soft target because of a perceived lack of security.

Accepting responsibility for protecting your data is inescapable nowadays, but whose job is it to ensure its safety?

Third Sector Insight has teamed up with Protective Intelligence – security specialists with long-standing experience in helping organisations in both the public and private sectors keep their data safe. By completing this survey, which is in the strictest confidence, we want to find out what you know about how your charity’s data is protected.

The survey will take no more than 10 minutes of your time – and as a thank you, we will enter you into a prize draw for a pair of West End theatre tickets.

  • Charitable trustees and risk management - planning for the unforeseen.

    11 January 2016

Today's charity leaders have a lot to contend with. Aside from the challenges associated with delivering their objectives, trustees and senior managers must keep apace with a multitude of developments within technology, local environments and the political, financial and legal spheres – all of which bring their own set of risks and opportunities.

The voluntary nature of trusteeship is one of the key principles of the charity sector. But trustees are increasingly expected to adopt a 'professional' approach and to be aware of the legal responsibilities of their role.

The Charity Commission wants to attract a diverse group of people to become trustees but despite these new trustees increasing the skills and experience base on boards, they may have little or no previous experience of the demands of trusteeship.

By involving trustees in the risk management process from the start, it will minimise chances of something going wrong on their watch.

Here at Third Sector Insight (in association with Ecclesiastical) we want to hear your thoughts on how you manage and plan for risk. We invite you to take this survey in the strictest confidence and it will only take 5 minutes to complete (we know, we timed it!).

As a thank you, we will:

- Send you the overview of the anonymised results- AND, enter you into a NEW prize draw for a copy of the very latest Donating Trends in the UK Report - worth £100.

  • How Do You Recruit and Retain Talent in the Third Sector?

    18 June 2015

In the third sector, there are now more than 793,000 paid jobs, a number which has grown by a quarter since the year 2000. As the country leaves the recession behind, this number continues to rise, at a rate of about 10,000 new jobs every year.

For charities, the challenge is in implementing a strategy that both attracts and retains the best talent. For some organisations, this might be wholly reactive, whereas others may proactively seek out their future employees.

Here at Third Sector Insight, in association with Monster, we want to understand your recruitment strategy, pain points and future plans.

We appreciate that you're busy at the best of times, but as a thank you we will:

    • Share with you the top-level results so you can benchmark your charity against peers

  • Keeping Safe – Data Security in the Third Sector

    26 March 2015

In 2012, 10,000 records were stolen during a hack on the British Pregnancy Advice Service (BPAS). The charity suffered a severe loss of supporter trust and a £200,000 fine in 2014¹. The BPAS had no protocols in place to protect or react to an attack.

The ICO has the power to fine organisations up to £500,000 for data breaches. For charities, however, the implementation of data safeguards is not only a necessary defence but a statement of intent. It builds supporter trust, demonstrates integrity and respect for supporters’ sensitive information.

Here at Third Sector Insight we want to hear your thoughts on today’s digital security threats. We invite you to take this survey in the strictest confidence and it will only take 2 minutes to complete (we know, we timed it!).

As a thank you, we will:

  • Can an Integrated Online Platform Increase Efficiency, whilst Creating New Opportunities?

    03 March 2015

It is an austere time for charities with an increasing need to juggle a wide range of tasks on limited resources. When it comes to an online presence, the ability to consolidate some of this workload could be a huge relief.

Here at Third Sector Insight, in partnership with Raising IT, we want to understand the challenges that your charity faces when it comes to your website and online campaigns. Plus, to what extent your charity is unifying or streamlining functionality across platforms.

We appreciate you are busy, but the survey will only take a couple of minutes and as a thank you we will:
